LIFE + Project

edDSCF3397_CustomGreenPak together with its Green Dot counterparts in Cyprus, Greece and France, has been awarded funds under the European Union's Life+ Programme to conduct a technical study on the EU-wide packaging waste recovery directives, which are believed to penalize islands such as Malta whose size realities make it impossible to reach overall targets set.

According to a country performance survey conducted by EUROSTAT (the Statistical Office of the European Communities) on the overall recycling quotas in 2006, Malta placed last among EU member states, with just over 10 per cent of packaging waste recovered or recycled. For this reason, GreenPak, as license-holder of Green Dot Malta (the license of a European network of industry-funded systems to recycle packaging materials of consumer goods), with the approval of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority as the regulator, is participating along with other equivalent organisations (Cyprus, Greece and France) in this EU-funded project:"Environment Policy Support Tool for Recycling in Islands".
