GreenPak at Earth Garden 2010

This year's edition of the GreenPak Earth Garden festival was held on the 5th and 6th June. This festival has now established itself as the largest green festival on the island. For this fourth edition, the focus was placed on electronic waste. Visitors were encouraged to bring along small items of electronic waste to GreenPak’s WEEE Recycle Stand for safe disposal and recycling.

As usual, the public’s response was good and items disposed of, amongst others, included: hairdryers, mobiles, cordless telephones, game consol controllers, portable CD players, electric razors and memory sticks.

GreenPak representatives were on hand to give advice in regard to best practices on the recycling of electronic waste and to hand out information leaflets.

Gozitan Councils Team Up With GreenPak

In a bid to further increase their waste recovery, the three Gozitan Local Councils of Xewkija, Sannat and Xagħra have teamed up with Green Dot Malta, operators of the only approved waste recovery scheme known as GreenPak, to promote and encourage recycling and waste separation.

GreenPak Sponsors Environmental Journalism Award

GreenPak believes that education is the key to increasing public participation in recycling. It also believes that the Maltese media has an essential role to play in this. Therefore, GreenPak is sponsoring the Environmental Journalism category in the Malta Journalism Awards organised by the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM).

The environmental journalism prize, which brings to 13, the number of categories for the Awards’ 20th edition, is presented to the Maltese journalist whose work is assessed as having most effectively communicated environmental issues to the public.

 

Project at Birzebbuga Primary School Launched

A project to encourage students to recycle their waste was launched at Birzebbuga Primary School. The project entitled “Nisseparaw l-iskart – Ngħinu l-Ambjent” (Recycling Rubbish – Helping the Environment) was organised with Birzebbuga Local Council and is aimed at making the students more aware of the benefits of recycling and of the difference they can make to their environment and their locality.

Activities on the day were held at the Primary School which was decorated with charts designed by the students, essays written by the children and a number of objects made from recycled material. In the playing yard, educational games were organised.

An essay competition was held and the best essay was read to the audience. Present on the day were Opposition Spokesperson for Local Government, Dr Stefan Buontempo MP, Birżebbuġa Mayor Joseph Farrugia, and GreenPak CEO Ing. Mario Schembri.

 

GreenPak to Distribute 150,000 Free Recycling Bags

Green Dot Malta, operators of the waste recovery scheme known as GreenPak, will be distributing some 150,000 free recycling bags to all households within those Local Councils that are working with GreenPak to promote “Recycling Tuesdays”.

Msida’s Primary School’s Sports Day

IMG_0462_CustomOn the 15th May 2009, GreenPak took part in Msida Primary School’s Sports Day. During a full day packed with educational games and activities, GreenPak’s Communications Manager Ms. Denise Vassallo explained the role of GreenPak and the significance of the Green Dot Trade Mark to the children and parents present. Ms. Vassallo was accompanied by GreenPak’s mascot, Green Gary, much to the delight of the children!

 

Dawra Durella mal-Ambjent

The Equal Partners Foundation held its "Dawra Durella mal-Ambjent" activity on the 21st May 2010. The event, organized with the collaboration of Deviant Events, took place at Ta` Qali National Park as part of the 2010 Earth Garden festival.

"Dawra Durella mal-Ambjent" targeted younger children with an interactive show performed by Curtain Raiser entitled "Roby & Ally- the Adventure". Children were asked to bring along plastic bottle caps for GreenPak to recycle. Ms. Denise Vassallo, Senior Manager at GreenPak explained the importance of recycling with the help of GreenPak's mascot-Green Gary. Mrs. Kate Gonzi, Chairperson of The Equal Partners Foundation, was the guest of honour at "Dawra Durella mal-Ambjent".

GreenPak Sponsors Bike Marathon

The 2010 bike marathon organised by Hamrun Lyceum this year took place between the 9th and 11th April.

This annual event is organised each year by the parents, teachers and students of the school. Participants in the marathon had to cycle for fiftycontinuous  hours and raise money for various charities.

Photography, Art and Science exhibitions, as well as dance and singing shows, amongst other activities were held at the school grounds. GreenPak sponsored the waste management system for the exciting event.

A record number of over 350 volunteers and 42 organisations teamed up with GreenPak on the 31st October 2009 to make the 4th Annual Seabed Clean Up Malta’s largest clean up drive on record!
