Zurrieq Local Council has taken an important step towards improving the recycling practices within their locality by teaming up with GreenPak, the MEPA authorised scheme operated by GreenPak Coop Society Limited.

Participation in the weekly GreenPak Lottery is open to all residents in Malta and Gozo even if one’s locality is not directly serviced by GreenPak. All one has to do to participate in GreenPak’s campaign “You win… The environment wins” is to deposit recyclable waste in a bring-in-site in a nearby locality serviced by GreenPak. This is the case of Ms Maureen Delia from Siġġiewi. Although her locality is not serviced by GreenPak, she deposited her recyclable waste in the bins marked with the GreenPak logo in Ħaż-Żebbuġ.

There may be a number of reasons why people do not recycle more, but there is an added reason why they should: now it can also be directly beneficial for their own pocket.
GreenPak’s campaign lottery “Tirbah int ... Jirbah l-ambjent” seeks to encourage more residents to recycle their packaging material, by rewarding them for their efforts with a weekly cash prize.

Paola Local Council has taken a decisive step to actively improve recycling in their locality as the Local Council has now teamed up with GreenPak, the MEPA authorised scheme operated by Green Dot Malta Ltd.

GreenPak is marking its one millionth distribution of the green recycling bags. Households within those Local Councils that are working with GreenPak are being given these free recycling bags with the aim to promote "Recycling on Tuesday".
For the last 14 months, the extensive education campaign underpinning this initiative has been a continuous effort in terms of raising more awareness about the importance of recycling and the separation of waste in various localities served by GreenPak.

A significant amount of paper and carton in waste recycling bags is being soiled, rendering it unrecyclable. This is about to stop with the introduction of a door-to-door collection for paper and cardboard. An extensive educational campaign was launched with Hamrun, Fgura and Attard residents with the collaboration of the respective local councils.
Mqabba Recycling Initiative

On the 27th February GreenPak in collaboration with Mqabba Local Council organised an educational event for the residents of Mqabba.
GreenPak set up a stand at the village main square and distributed educational leaflets and other material to encourage Mqabba residents to recycle more. The Local Council provided refreshments on the day.

During December teams of Recycling Advisors led by Kurt Scerri, GreenPak's Waste Education Officer, distributed GreenPak recycling bags to localities in Għaxaq, Żabbar, Xewkija and Xagħra.
To ensure that the good education initiatives put in place are maintained and improved upon, the recycling advisors undertook a refresher course to reinforce the educational message to the public.

What better way to start the New Year with an effort to recycle more. Residents of Attard, Balzan, and Lija will be able to do just that by recycling their Christmas cards. Apart from helping to reduce waste, this initiative will support charitable institutions and, at the same time, offer prizes to those who participate.
