Useful Tips to Keep in Mind
Saving Our Planet

Going green is easier than you think. There are little things you can do every day to help reduce greenhouse gases and your carbon footprint . Taking care of the planet isn't just a responsibility -- it's a privilege. In that spirit, GreenPak has come up with 7 things you can do to help save our planet.

1. Pay attention to what you're buying

Make an effort to purchase products which are made in sustainable ways. Buy goods from businesses that are attentive of what they produce and how. Try to buy paper products made from recycled goods or those with minimal packaging. The choices you make directly impact the market for sustainable goods, keeping these companies afloat and becoming a more aware consumer.

2. Recycle

There's no excuse not to recycle in this day and age! In fact, we've even published a post on why you should recycle, click here to read it if you're still unsure about the recycling process.

3. Be mindful of what you throw away

Before you throw something away, ask yourself whether it can be donated, saved, recycled or composted. The general rubbish bin should be the last option. So much of what we use can be reused, and not just thrown away. It's good to understand that waste doesn’t magically disappear when you throw it out.

4. Use Your Car Less

In such a small island, it's surprising how little people don't use their cars on a daily basis. Make a difference and walk or cycle short distances. Another option is to carpool. If everyone uses their own personal car every day, then unnecessary pollution is being produced. It's so much easier and cost-effective to carpool.

5. Don’t waste water

Water waste is a huge issue, especially on an island where fresh water is very limited. Turn off the tap when you're brushing your teeth or showering, run the dishwasher only when it's full and half-flush when necessary. There are people on the planet with no water to drink, yet we waste water at an alarming rate.

6. Shop locally

By buying local products, you're not only supporting local businesses but you're cutting down the demand for large companies that produce a lot of waste. It also cuts down on the emissions produced to bring in products from overseas. Go to farmers markets, shop locally and know where your food comes from. Simply buying ‘organic’ doesn’t always necessarily guarantee quality or environmentally friendly production.

7. Make your home more energy efficient

Change your light bulbs to fluorescent ones as they last longer and consume less energy. Clean your air filters regularly so your system doesn't have to do double the work. Turn off the lights and appliances when they're not in use.

Alone, no one can change the world and better our planet, but if everyone does their little bit, a difference can be made. There's clear evidence that planet earth is suffering, so let's do our part by being conscious global citizens. Make the world a place once which future generations will be able to live in, too.
